Privacy and optional analytics
Japan Life Compass is an independent editorial guide. Optional analytics is designed to help us understand which pages are useful without limiting access for people who do not consent.
Your choice
Google Analytics is loaded only after you select “Accept analytics.” If you reject or have not decided, this site does not request the Google Analytics or Google Tag script. You can reopen the privacy and analytics control on any page and withdraw future consent. If Analytics was already loaded, withdrawal saves the denied choice and immediately reloads the page so the Google tag is no longer loaded.

Preference stored on this device
The site stores one first-party local-storage preference named jlc_optional_analytics_consent_v1. It contains only a schema version, your choice (granted or denied) and an expiry time. It does not contain identity or browsing history and expires after 180 days.
Measurement boundary
The analytics provider is Google Analytics 4. Measurement is limited to consented page views, active users and sessions. Non-consenting visitors are excluded, so Analytics reports will not represent all visitors.
- No User-ID or form, email, name, phone or free-text collection.
- No Google Signals, advertising personalisation or remarketing.
- No nationality, residence-status, financial, medical or child-profile fields.
Current configuration
The site uses a dedicated Japan Life Compass analytics property and web stream. Optional account-level data sharing, Google Signals, advertising personalisation, remarketing, User-ID and user-provided data collection are not enabled. Analytics remains disabled on your device unless you explicitly accept it.

Affiliate advertising
The homepage tourism section contains one Rakuten Travel banner supplied through Moshimo Affiliate. It is clearly marked as an advertisement. Opening the homepage requests the banner image from Moshimo and records an ad impression through Moshimo's one-pixel image. If you book after following the banner, Japan Life Compass may receive a commission. The seven official Kanto tourism links are not affiliate links.
