A worked decision, before a booking link

Fictional planning example — the times below are personal preferences, not a timetable or a tested itinerary.

You want a quiet museum visit in one Kanto prefecture and to be home by 18:00. You prefer no more than one transfer each way. Your first sketch has a museum, a distant lunch stop and a second town. The problem is not finding another attraction: you have not checked whether your main visit fits the return journey.

Choose the anchor: keep the museum and remove the second town from the first plan. Find the museum’s current visitor page through the prefectural tourism site.
Check the critical facts: opening date, last admission, any reservation requirement and accessibility information. Record the source and date rather than copying an old blog’s hours.
Check the whole route: use the transport operator’s current information for outward and return travel, including the final connection home. A route to the nearest major station is not the whole trip.
Decide with your own constraints: if the return fits the 18:00 preference with room for a break, keep the day trip. If not, compare a simpler destination or one night. A missing return connection is an unanswered question, not a reason to book immediately.

A concrete day trip: Ikebukuro to Kawagoe

Starting condition: begin at Ikebukuro Station and use the Tobu Tojo Line to Kawagoe Station. The official Kawagoe festival website gives approximately 30 minutes by express. This is a station-to-station guide time, not a departure timetable; waiting and travel from your accommodation are additional. Kawagoe Station and Hon-Kawagoe Station are different stations.

Keep the walking area compact

Arrive at Kawagoe Station. Before leaving the station, identify the return route to Ikebukuro and record your preferred return departure.
Make Kurazukuri Street’s warehouse district your anchor. Then choose nearby Kashiya Yokocho (Candy Alley) as the optional extra. These locations are identified by JNTO’s Kawagoe guide · www.japan.travel ↗.
Use the Kawagoe Festival Museum at 2-1-10 Motomachi as the indoor stop. Leave room for lunch and travel back to the station rather than adding another town.
